  2.                          Registering The Star Commander

  4.   The Star Commander is giftware. You may use the unregistered version as long
  5. as you wish, it is in no way crippled, there are no nag screens or  delays  in
  6. it and it won't refuse to run even a year after the  installation.  It  is  my
  7. personal will not to put any of these restrictions into the Commander  because
  8. I don't like such "features"  in shareware programs either.  However,  if  you
  9. appreciate the years of work it took  to  create  the  Commander  then  you're
  10. encouraged to register it. My main reason for this is to get some  information
  11. about the people using the Commander all over the  world  when  they  register
  12. but, of course, getting some money won't hurt either.

  14.   There are only two things that may annoy you when using an unregistered copy
  15. of the Commander: first, when you start it, you'll see three extra lines below
  16. the title asking you to register and, second, there is a similar sign  in  the
  17. uppermost lines of the 'About the Commander' section of the online help.

  19.   Please, cut and fill in the registration form below. As a registration info,
  20. you can type a maximum  of  50  characters  that  will  be  displayed  in  the
  21. Commander. Indicate if you want your name to be put to the list of  registered
  22. users below and whether you would like to see the amount of money you paid for
  23. the Commander there or not.

  25.   When you're done, send the form to me in an E-mail. Soon you will receive  a
  26. reply containing a uuencoded keyfile that registers your copy. If you have  no
  27. access to the Internet but you're living in Hungary then print  the  form  out
  28. and send it to me in a snail-mail along with a formatted  disk  and  a  return
  29. envelope with stamps and your address on it - I'm sorry, but I can do  nothing
  30. with non-Hungarian stamps. When registering, you don't have to send any money,
  31. only if you want: this is what "giftware" is  about.  10 USD,  15 DEM  or  the
  32. equivalent in your own currency (the proposed fee for Hungarians is  only  500
  33. HUF) would be quite satisfying but you can send me more or less - it's  up  to
  34. you to decide how much the Commander is worth for you. You  can  transfer  the
  35. money to my bank account (please, note that the money is a "present" from  you
  36. to me):

  53.   If you register the Commander, the keyfile you get  will  make  those  three
  54. lines disappear forever. If you enter the 'About the Commander' section of the
  55. online help, you  will  see "This copy of The Star Commander is registered to:
  56. <registration info>" in the uppermost lines. If you have  an  E-mail  address,
  57. you'll also be put onto the mailing list so that you  always  get  the  newest
  58. versions in uuencoded E-mails on the release day. If you have no access to the
  59. Internet but you're living in Hungary then you can always send me a  formatted
  60. disk and an envelope with stamps and your address on  it  to  get  the  latest
  61. release. You will always remain a registered user, the keyfile will  be  valid
  62. with all future releases. Your name is optionally going to  be  added  to  the
  63. list of registered users at the end of this file so that everyone sees  you've
  64. already done the right thing.

  66.   As a registered user you won't get other extras because I  can't  offer  you
  67. more: the registered version doesn't have new features over  the  unregistered
  68. version and if you have problems, I'll try to help you independently  of  your
  69. being a registered user or not. However, by registering,  you  can  make  sure
  70. you've made your moral (and optionally your monetary) contribution to  further
  71. development.

  73.   Don't forget that a software worth using is worth buying  and  that  it's  a
  74. lame thing to distribute your personal  keyfile  when  anyone  else  can  also
  75. register the Commander for free. Thank you!
